Color Wheel Expert

What is Color Wheel Expert?

This is a small tool that helps you to select harmonious colors for a web site. If you have spent much time on the web, you'll have visited at least a few sites where the colors don't work together very well. For graphic designers, this is rarely a problem, color is something they are taught. For the rest of us, we need to carefully select our colors.

Color wheel expert pulls together several elements to make selecting colors easier. The elements include: a selection of palettes to use, with the possibility of creating more; ways to select color; a color wheel with complements, split-complements, or the color triad easily selected; and a number of html elements that you can apply the selected color to.

Color Wheel screen layout

Above is a full-size image of the tool. Buttons for Color Wheel Expert allow you to select a color from the screen, make a color web safe, select a color from an array of colors, convert colors, add a new palette, or select from one of the existing palettes. Under the buttons, to the left is a color wheel based on your current selected color, beside that is an area filled with the current color, and displays the HEX and RGB values for that color. To the right is current palette. The bottom of the screen is the area you can use to select colors and see how they work together.

Eye dropper color picker

If you have an example of the color you need, you can easily add it to this program. Just select the eyedropper tool. You'll get an eyedropper and the above menu. Select one or multiple colors from anywhere on your screen or in another program. They will be added to the top of the current palette. Or use the drop down menu to select which palette to add this new color to. This is a handy feature if you want to match a color from a particular web page or image.

colorpickbar

This is more of a standard tool that allows you to select a color from the full range possible. Select the relative color that you want then adjust the intensity of that color.

Now that you have the color palette that you want, here is the fun! Select colors from your palette, and see how they work together. As you select one color, the color wheel will show the complements of that color or the color triad. Use these to create differing table rows, or contrasting navigation elements. When you have chosen your colors, note the RGB or hex values so you can add them to your html document.

Conclusion

If you need to create a web site, and you want to set up a distinctive color scheme for that site, this tool will help. Because it has a number of available layout options, you can try various color schemes for just basic pages, pages with header, footer and navigation sections, and tables. All this tool does is allow you to select colors, you'll need other software to create images or web pages.

The software is available from Abitom . The trial version of it only allows you to try color schemes for a few of the layouts, which is enough to let you know how useful the tool will be for you.
